Combining on-location sketching sessions with studio work to develop finished paintings. Several watercolour techniques will be explored including controlling wet on wet shapes, discovering the joy of mop brushes, and building paintings on an abstract background.
The volunteers for this workshop venue are extremely well organized to give great value for the money. There are wonderul locations to sketch, and bring back to the studio for painting afterward.

Title: Exploring Loose Watercolour
Content Description
The overall focus of the workshop is to introduce artists to a spontaneous approach to watercolour. Merv`s love of nature and architectural subjects are transformed into beautiful washes of striking colour and loose detail. We will explore wet in wet painting looking at control of shapes and edges, working with mop brushes to create luscious vibrant work, building paintings on an abstract background, and painting with negative shapes.
Duration: 4 days
Course is limited to 20
Suitable for beginners with some experience, intermediate & advanced painters
Special Requirements
Old terrycloth towel to cover your painting board.
(1) 1” or 1.5” flat brush
(1) #1 and (1) # 6 mop brushes (or other mops you may already have in small and medium size)
Arches 140lb cold press paper (5 sheets)
Note: No special colours required. Just bring your other regular painting supplies.
Details of Workshop day by day
Sunday evening will be get-acquainted time with a demonstration.
Each morning and after lunch session Monday through Wednesday begin with a demonstration followed by participant paint time under the guidance of the instructor until the session ends. After dinner each evening will be available for a critique time of the days` results.
Monday will focus on wet in wet technique, with emphasis on control of shapes and edges while working on a wet surface.
Tuesday will be working with mop brushes to create juicy, vibrant work in the morning and painting with negative shapes in the afternoon.
Wednesday will be about building paintings on an a splattered, abstract background while saving some interesting white textural shapes.
Thursday morning will be available to finish previous days` work, with mini demos to answer specific technical questions.
Accommodation:
$120.00 per person (including taxes), per day, double occupancy; includes three meals per day,
unlimited use of studio and on-site facilities. Guests are required to provide their own sheets (single
bed) and towels. Please also bring a flashlight. No pets. All cabins are smoke free. Please wear
comfortable walking shoes, as the terrain is uneven. We are unable to accommodate individual
specific dietary needs.
Check in between 4:00pm - 6:00.pm. Dinner at 6:30pm.
There will be a cancellation fee of 25% charged after July 15th on accommodation fees.
